How To Network Windows Xp With Windows 10

Do you take File Sharing turned on in Windows XP. Yous may have to specifically let the login proper name used on the Windows 10 device to access the Windows XP device.

Thanks for your prompt response but file sharing is already turned on on the XP machine and the login name used on the Windows x device is set as a user on the XP device.

I have not updated my notes on this subject for three years now** merely I did find that using XP & Windows 7 or Windows 10 together required a common Admin business relationship on both computers - non merely the same Admin user account proper noun on both but besides the same user business relationship password on both. Then when I first connected, I had to authorise the connexion with that mutual Admin name & countersign and the connexion worked both ways.

** The procedure I used in the link was for

Win7 - WinXP using a direct Ethernet cable connection

and I retested it terminal year for

Win10 - WinXP using a direct Ethernet cablevision connection

and, afterward a clean reinstall of Windows 10 a couple of months ago, I retested it for

Win10 - WinXP through a router

[which meant I did not take to practice all the manual IP & DNS settings as the router handled all that].
