Should You Do A Clean Install With An Ssd

  1. #1

Can you lot make clean install on ssd and format hdd at in one case?

    Hullo!

I want to do a clean install of windows 10 on my ssd. Id like to format my hdd at the same time. I find a lot of information on how to avoid that but piffling on how to actually do it.

When you chose the custom installation and yous get to the function where you lot delete all the partitions on the C drive until information technologysouthward all unallocated space, volition I see my other drive there? Tin I format it from at that place and then when information technologys done choose the other bulldoze to install windows?

I know I could format the hdd before or after the install but equally Im worried about malware formatting everything at the aforementioned time seems like the safer bet to wipe everything.

    Thank you!

    Kuroko,

Y'all nailed it precisely. When yous go to the screen where you lot choose what drive to install onto, you can partition other drives from there also.

If you lot prefer, you have as some other option the ability to run diskpart and partition the other drives from there. Simply printing SHIFT + F10 to open a command prompt, then run "diskpart".

Either way, the answer comes down to just this:

Aye - yous can sectionalisation and format your other drives during the installation of Windows 10.

When you install you should do it with only the 1 drive we have 100s of people who take 2 disk during install and the boot files terminate up on the 2d drive

Windows can exist installed in two ways: Legacy-MBR or UEFI-GPT
To install as Legacy-MBR y'all must kicking the installation drive every bit Legacy
To install as UEFI-GPT y'all must kicking the installation drive as UEFI.

If you have a new MB, you lot should install as UEFI-GPT
(Detach any other drives (SATA or Power cable) from the MB.)
On BIOS, disable fast kick and secure boot (y'all can enable after installation)

During POST, press F? to launch the boot menu. Y'all will see two options for the USB drive. USB UEFI (Name) and USB (Name). Select USB UEFI (Name).
Go to install and delete ALL partitions on the SSD till you lot have ane and only one

    unallocated infinite and then continue.

    Delete

all partitions on the HDD and then choose to format it.
If you don't desire to use MS business relationship, don't enable updates or connect to the internet during installation.

Another issue tin occur with 2 drives connected during install, may inadvertently go picked up in the BIOS as a RAID or RAID/AHCI install and later removal of the 2nd drive will suspension the boot procedure.

Wow! My desktop currently has 2 spinner HDDs, one 2.five" SATA SSD, 1 M.2 SATA SSD, and 2 NVMe SSDs connected. That's a whole lot of disconnecting that.....well......I just don't do. No problems with clean installs onto whatever of the drives.

@NavyLCDR: same hither. My production desktop shows 10 drives:

Can you clean install on ssd and format hdd at once?-image.png

In one case a organization is stable and reliable, you can avoid the disconnect phase. But if problems present, peculiarly during installation or upgrade, disconnection starts looking increasingly attractive -- to me, anywho.

    Cheers for sharing,
